Deed*E. bought property at Winterville Township, Pitt County, North Carolina, on on 12/11/1924. He sold 75 acres more or less to E. M. McLawhorn for five dollars. The deed is recorded at the Pitt County Courthouse in Greenville, North Carolina in Deed Book N-15, Page 229-230 and reads as follows:

"...Beginning at a stake on the dividing line or ditch, between David McLawhorn and E. M. McLawhorn and runs down said ditch to a sweet gum in the edge of Swift Creek, thence down said swamp a straight line to a wateroak, thence across Swift Creek, with David McLawhorn line to a new corner, this day made between said E. M. McLawhorn and H. C. Braxton, thence with a new line made and chopped this day S. 4 W. 86 poles to the center of several chopped trees in the old Benjamin Smith line, formerly made between W. J. Braxton and said Smith, thence with said dividing line S. 38 3/4 E. 105 poles to a stake in the middle of Swift Creek Swamp, thence Northeastwardly with old line of marked trees to an old corner, formerly a white oak, thence N. 35 1/2 E. 50 poles to a lightwood stump, thence N. 11 E. 112 1/2 poles to the beginning containing 75 acres more or less..."

Death*Eva died on 01/24/2000 at Britthaven Ayden Nursing Home, Ayden, Pitt County, North Carolina, at age 96.4 
Biography* Eva and Pink had only one child, a baby boy, who died at birth on April 29, 1923. He was breached and tragically, his neck was broken when the doctor tried to turn him around. The delivery was at their home. Eva lost consciousness and stayed in a comma for several days. She also lost her sight for a couple of weeks. The baby is buried in an unmarked grave in the Ben Byrd/Cox Family Cemetery near his grandparents, Christopher and Sarah Braxton.

Civil War*Franklin enlisted into the Confederate Army on 01/27/1862 into "I" Co. NC 44th Infantry and fought in the Civil War. His confederate service record has his name recorded as Frank McGlawhorn. He was a 21 year old resident of Pitt County North Carolina.

Frank enlisted on January 27, 1862 at Pitt County, North Carolina as a Private. On March 3, 1862 he mustered into "I" Co. NC 44th Infantry
(date and method of discharge not given). The following entries are recorded in his confederate are service record:
- Wounded October 10, 1863 Bristoe Station, Virginia
- Hospitalized October 16, 1863 Charlottesville, Virginia
- Returned February 2, 1864 (place not stated) (No further record)

Frank's unit, the 44th Infantry Regiment, completed its organization in March, 1862, at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Granville, Edgecombe, Pitt, Chatham, Montgomery, Beaufort, and Franklin. It served in the Department of North Carolina, then was assigned to General Pettigrrew's, Kirkland's, and MacRae's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. En route to Gettysburg the 44th stayed at Hanover Junction to guard the railroads. Later it fought at Bristoe, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. It was then involved in the Petersburg siege south of the James River and the Appomattox Campaign. The regiment reported 23 killed and 63 wounded at Bristoe, sustained heavy losses at The Wilderness and in front of Petersburg, and surrendered 8 officers and 74 men on April 9, 1865. It commanders were Colonels G.B. Singeltary and T.C. Singeltary; Lieutenant Colonels Richard C. Cotton, Elisha Cromwell, and Tazewell L. Hargrove, and Major Charles M. Stedman.

Deed*Franklin bought property at Pitt County, North Carolina, on 01/27/1862. As recorded in Deed Book SS, page 526: On January 27, 1862, Arthur gave his grandson, Franklin McLawhorn, 50 acres of land adjoining that of Henry Simmons, Robert Harris, Warren McLawhorn, and Johnson Nobles. The deed was witnessed by J.J. Bland and William C. Little..3

The following entry was made in the Pitt County Federal Population Census for Franklin's household: Franklin, age 38, Farmer, could read and write; Mary, age 35, wife, keeping house, could read and write; Aola (sp), age 14, son, worked on farm, could read and write; Sarah, age 8, daughter; Mertie, age 7, daughter; Mary, age 5, daughter; Idea, age 4, daughter, Nancy, age 2, daughter; Emiley, age 10/12, daughter.

Census 1910* On 04/26/1910, Franklin was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census at Contentnea Township, Pitt County, North Carolina. He was a 67 year-old farmer with the following individuals in his household:

Mary, Franklin's wife, age 66; Alonzo, son, age 27 and his wife Nancy age 27, they had been married 6 years; Preston, grandson, age 5; Stella, granddaughter, age 4; William, grandson, age 2; Johnny, grandson, age 2/12; Emily Ewell, daughter, age 31; Milly Ewell, granddaughter, age 8. Mary had given birth to 10 children and 8 were still alive.

Alonzo and Milly were listed as farm labors. Franklin and Mary had been married for forty years and neither could read nor write. Nancy was the only one in the house hold who could read and write. Franklin owned his own farm and it is recorded in the 1910 Pitt County Farm Schedule as 111.
