Mortgage Deed*On November 17, 1891; on this day, "Tip" and his wife Sarah borrowed four hundred dollars using their Saw Mill and Grist Mill as collateral and the sixty-five and one-half acres that is was built upon. The mortgage was due on December 1, 1892 with 8% interest. This deed is recorded at the Pitt County Courthouse in Greenville, North Carolina in Deed Book J5, Pages 440-442. The land was described as:

"...Begining at a pine and dogwood at or near the Nobels and Jonathan Kittrell line and running West about twenty-one hundred (2100) yards to a corner at a stake near the path, thence North straight with an old path to an old ditch Corner at a maple and pine, thence down the ditch to the Canal the Joab Harrington line, thence down the Canal with the Joab Harrington line to the Moses Harrington line the original Corner of the Kittrell land. Thence South with the Kittrell and Nobels line to the beginning Containing Sixty five and one half acres more or less. And the CC Braxton and Sarah M Braxton In the Consideration aforesaid doth also bargain, sell and convey unto the said P.E. Braswell his executors administration and assigns the following personal property to wit; One twenty (20) Horse Power Boiler, one twenty (20) Horse Power Engine and Saw Mill and fixtures. The same being now situated upon the above described tract of land..."

     The description of this tract of land is same as the description of the land "Tip" acquired from his father, Warren Braxton, on August 31, 1886. However, there is one serious discrepancy, in the 1886 deed the tract of land was described as 35 acres. The 1886 purchase price of three hundred dollars would be more consistent to a purchase of 65 acres. Therefore, this tract of land was most likely the 65 1/2 acres stated within this deed. issued a mortgage to P. E. Braswell at Ayden, Pitt County, North Carolina, on 11/17/1891.2
