Davenport, Ernest, Taymouth Township. Passed away Thursday afternoon, March 10, 1977, at St. Luke's Hospital. Age 89 years. He was born Aug. 22, 1887, in Greensboro, N.C., living in Taymouth Township for over 40 years. He was engaged in farming for most of his live. He married Tressie Hall Aug. 16, 1908, in Pelham, N.C. She survives him. He also leaves one son and four daughters, Cecil Davenport, Mrs. Earl (Ruby) Rambo, Mrs. Bernard (Erma) Bosley and Miss Edith Davenport, all of Birch Run; Mrs. Ralph (CLARE) Taylor, Holly, Mich; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Funeral service will take place 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Case Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway. Elder Wilber F. Woodhams will officiate with burial in Cook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway after 4:00 p.m. Friday."7 
Biography* His sister Rowena, and brother, Joe, who visited Michigan with terminal cancer.

According to an Email from Raymond Kinney dated April 09, 2004, Ernest was born in North Carolina. He told his grandson Randy many stories of his youth, but nothing about his family. He left North Carolina, supposedly under a cloud, and moved to Danville, Virginia and was married at age 20. So far as is known, he never returned.7,3

Pilgreen of Greenville, Luther F. Pilgreen of Tarboro, and Roy C. Pilgreen of Bethel. Three daughters: Mrs. (Mae) Milton Jackson of Greenville, Mrs. (Ethel) Julius Warren of Stokes, and Mrs. (Lois) George Bullock of Williamston: 26 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren..1

Death*Inez died on 07/21/1976 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina, at age 50. Her death was caused by an infected tooth that was pulled approximately a week before her death. The infection spread to her blood stream and was resistance to all available antibiotics including some experimental ones. She was in a comma approximately 3-4 days before her death..2,3,4 
Burial*Her body was interred on 07/24/1976 in the Ayden Town Cemetery at Ayden, Pitt County, North Carolina, .

School attendance*Inez graduated from Ayden High School Ayden North Carolina. She wanted to go to college but her parents could not afford it. However, her parents were good friends with Mr. Frank Edmundson who ran a Certified Public Accountant business in Greenville, North Carolina. He agreed to send her for a six-month course at the Secretary School in Richmond, Virginia if she would work for him after graduation, which she did.3

Surviving besides her husband are on daughter, Crystal L. Germaine, a son, Joseph R. Burgess, a step-son, Fred E. Rambo; three sisters, CLARA Taylor, Edith Davenport and Genevieve Erma Bosley; several nieces and nephews; two step-sons, Robert L. and George E. Rambo. Two brothers, Cecil E. Davenport and Robert M. (Buster) Davenport have predeceased her. Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Case Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway. Rev. Walter David will officiate with burial in Cook Cemetery, Burt. Friends may call at the chapel, 5700 Dixie Hwy. from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 Tuesday."1

Deed*She was deed on 06/27/1913 at Pitt County, North Carolina; According an Email from Marguerite, (Marge) Hash, Sallie inherited this property from William Gray Little who was the father of her children. She was told by Diane that she was also his servant. William Gray Little also had children by his wife Nicey. Sallie was intimidated by William's family to sell back the property. This deed is recorded in Pitt County North Carolina Deed Book N10, page 258, as recorded in the LDS FHC film #340161. The deeds reads as follows:

TO: "J.L.Little, F.L.Thigpen and Cornelius Barnhill all of the County of Pitt and State of North Carolina, parties of the second part"
CONSIDERATION: "One Thousand Dollars" SELLS: "a certain tract or parcel of land in Bethel township, Pitt Colunty, N.C."
BOUNDED: "Beginning at the bridge at the end of my hog land and runs down or up the middle of the path through my hog pasture to the corner of my field, and thence parallel with said path in a direct line to Small Branch, then down said Branch to the run of Mill Branch, then down said Mill Branch to my field, and then down my canal to the mouth of a certain ditch that empties in said canal, then up said canal to the beginning, containing by estimation fifty acres more or less. It being the same tract of land which was conveyed to Sallie Davenport by W.G.Little on the 28 day of April, 190_, and which deed is recorded in Book T9 page 295 of the Pitt County Registry. And it being a part of the tract of land known as the F.S.Little home place."
EXCEPTIONS: "The said Sallie Davenport excepts and reserves the rents on said land for the year of 1913." SIGNED: "Sallie [her X mark] Davenport" "27 day of June, 1913"

Biography* According to Edna Earl Braxton who knew "Aunt Sac", she was described as a Little Bittie thing weighing not more than 90 pounds and always wore a bonnet. When Edna was a child she was told that Aunt Sac was the daughter of one of those rich Davenports from Pactolus. She was also told that Sallie never married. The last time Edna saw Aunt Sac was at a family funeral when Edna was 16.

In the 1900 Census, she was living in the household of Susan Davenport and was recorded as her daughter.

In reviewing this information it is important to keep in mind that inumerators were being paid by the number of names they gathered, they did not always take the data from a member of the household they were enumerating. Many enumerators traveled long distances on foot, so when they came to an empty dwelling it was common practice to have a neighbor volunteer the information. This practice compounds the errors made on the original census manuscripts, and perpetuated by indexers or researchers..10,14
