Frank was born at Hugo, Greene County, North Carolina, on 01/17/1826.¹

He was the son of Hardee Thomas Craft and Ellen Faye McGlohon Craft.

Death*

Frank died March 7-10, 1865 at Battle of, Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. In Kevin Craft's email dated 10-30-01 the following states what Aspley said about the Craft Family.

"When the civil War started Frank and Richard (his brother) went down to Wilmington, in Brunswick County, to enlist. In March 1865 Frank was killed in the Battle of Kinston. We buried Frank here on the farm. He was dressed in his uniform. We didn't have money for a gravestone, hoping Richard will fix that.".¹

Milit-Beg*

Frank served in the military on 11/21/1864. Frank enlisted in Wilmington (Brunswick Co. North Carolina) on August 29, 1862 as a private, at the age of 36. He had cornsilk (Blond) hair and blue eyes. He stood and even 6' tall and weighed 183 pounds. His CSA Service number was MD03-4851 and he was in the 5th North Carolina Conscripts. Private Craft was first ordered to report to General George B. McCllelan as part reinforcement unit at Sharpsburg (Antietam Creek), Maryland on September 15, 1862. He was wounded in his left shoulder on September 18, 1862. His arm became badly infected but was not amputated. He was in the hospital 8 months with his shoulder problem. Frank was promoted to Corporal on April 6, 1863. He was discharged on May 17, 1863. Family trouble was the reason listed for his discharge.

Frank enlisted in Wilmington (Brunswick Co. North Carolina) on November 21, 1864 as a Corporal, at the age of 38. He had lost 62 pounds since his first enlisting. Now he weighed in at 121 pounds. His CSA Service # was NC17-6759 and he was in the 5th North Carolina Conscripts. He was promoted to Lieutenant on December 18, 1864. In his first dispatch he was assisting General Hoke and other CSA officers under the leadership Major General Braxton Bragg from November 1864-February 1865. His second dispatch was in the Battle of Kinston on March 7-10, 1865. He was killed at the Battle of Kinston as a result of a musketball to the chest. Lieutenant Craft's body was transported to his home in Winterville, NC via Atlantic Coastline Railroad with all expenses paid by CSA. Apsley Craft was listed as Franks' next of kin and was entitled to the sum of $150 Confederate Currency. Richard A. Craft was listed as his brother and in the 7th North Carolina Artillery company H..²
