Deed*Eureka bought property at Pitt County, North Carolina, on 12/07/1903. M. R. Page and J. D. Bullock Mortgagee, sold 44 acres for $175 to Eureka Lumber Company. This gave Eureka a right away 20' wide for a railroad to be located anytime within the next 8 years from the date of deed. The sum of $10 was paid to M. R. Page for all of the pine of and above the size of 12" in diameter which may now or at any time during the 8 year period grow. The deed also allows Eureka access to the property for the purpose of cutting and removal of trees, building and maintaining railroad, shelters and other fixtures. Eureka may also use the "wood to operate its locomotive while removing said timber." The deed identifies the tract of land as being bordered by J. W. Page on the South, J. H. Whitehurst on the North, C. F. Page on the East and J. D. Wynne on the West..1

Bullock brought in Superior Court against Wilmington Weldon Rail Road Company. The railroad company dug ditches along its road bed, "which were necessary for proper construction of its said road bed: the said ditches causing the said Bullock's land to be overflowed and flooded thereby damaging it and the crop growing thereon ..." The controversy was settled and the Railroad Company paid $300 to Bullock for the right to drain its road bed onto his property..1
