| Death* | Martha died a __/__/1850. It is not known where she is buried.
.2 |
| Census 1850 - free* | Martha was listed as a household member living with Warren Braxton on the 1850 Census at Burney's District, Pitt County, North Carolina. The following entry was made for Warren and his family: Warren, age 27, farmer; Sarah (Cox), age 31; Christopher C., age 4; John J., age 3; Martha Braxton, age 15. Martha is too old to have been Warren's child; she may have been one of his two younger sisters. From the 1840 Census, we know Joel and Sallie had a daughter that could have been 15 in 1850. Warren's other younger sister may have been the Mary who was living with his brother, Phelix, during the 1850 Census.
Neither Warren nor his wife, Sarah could read or write. The real estate he owned was valued at $1,111. From a complete review of all of Warren's deeds, we know that at the time of this Census, he owned at least 50 acres. In fact, the amount could have been significantly more because in a deed dated September 26, 1846, in which Warren bought land, the acreage was not recorded. His household was recorded as number 804 on Page 49A under the Burney's District.

Mary Braxton
F, #2474, b. circa 1730, d. circa 1806
| Birth* | Mary was born c __/__/1730.1 |
| Marriage* | She married John Braxton 1st c __/__/1753. John sold land to his son James on April 21, 1775 who must have been at least 21 years old, which leads us to the conclusion that John and Mary were probably married in 1754 or earlier.
.1 |
| Death* | Mary died c __/__/1806. She is listed as the head of a household in the 1800 Census and she is not recorded in the 1810 Census. The estate of her husband, John, was foreclosed upon on November 1, 1806. Therefore, most likely, she died late 1806..2 |
| Deed* | Mary sold property at Swift Creek, Pitt County, North Carolina, on 12/20/1795. Caleb Tripp Senior paid John and his wife Mary Braxton 45 pounds 10 Shillings for these 100 acres located on a branch of the West Prong of Swift Creek and bounded by Reedy Branch and Gum Swamp. In this deed, Mary was identified as "Mary Braxton the wife of John Braxton Sen". This deed was witnessed by Shadrock Moore, John Fulford, and Wm. Whitfield. This deed is recorded at the Pitt County Courthouse in Greenville, North Carolina in Deed Book N, Page 456-457. This record offers further proof that John's wife was named Mary. Another interesting aspect of this deed is that Caleb Tripp Senior was the Grandfather of Cennetta Tripp who in 1877 married John's great grandson Warren Braxton.
.3 |
| Census 1800* | Mary was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census at Pitt County, North Carolina. Her entry in this census follows.
Free White Female under 10, 1; Free White Female 17-26, 1; Free White Female 27-45, 1; Free White Female over 45, 1; Slaves, 3.
From this record we know her husband, John, died before 1800 and all of the boys are gone.
Her entry is recorded on page 287 of the 1800 Pitt County Federal Population Census..4 |
