Spier Weatherington

Birth*Spier was born. 
Deed*Spier sold property at Swift Creek, Pitt County, North Carolina, on 01/15/1861. Spier Wetherington sold 63 acres to John for $246.80. The land was located in Pitt County on the West side of Swift Creek begining at a sweet gum in watering hole branch and adjoining Abram Barber's land. Spier originally purchased this tract of land from Moses Tripp for $380 on December 27, 1860. It was know as the old Failing tract.

In 1875 John's sister, Mary Craft, filed a Warrant for Bastardy naming Spier Wetherington as the father of her son, Henry Hazzard Craft.

One interesting point is Abram Barber is the ggg grandfather of Vickie Jean Humbles Braxton.

In Kevin Craft's email dated 10-30-01 the following states what Aspley said about the Craft Family. "My brother, John, married Hester and they bought land near Goldsboro."

Court - civil*He was recorded in a civil court proceeding on 04/08/1875 at Pitt County, North Carolina. Mary Craft a court case at Pitt County, North Carolina, on 04/08/1875. The Warrant reads as follows:

"....Whereas, complaint has been made before me this day, on the oath of Mary Craft that she has been deliveried of a child and said child is a bastard and liable to become a county charge..... Not executed on the account of the death of the defendant."

Although, the child's name was not given in this Warrant, it was most likely Henry Hazzard Craft born in 1874. He is the only known child of Mary.

From the 1870 Pitt County Federal Population Census we know that a Spier Wethington, age 39, was listed as the head of household 61 and Mary's brother, Richard Craft, was listed as the head of household 63. From deeds, we know Mary's property adjoined Richard's. Therefore, Spier lived within a few farms of Mary's farm. Spier was recorded as married to Margret and they had seven children age 3-12..2
