The following transcript of Clifton's obituary was provided by courtesy of Nancy Pittman: Clifton R. Pilgreen - Clifton Ray Pilgreen, 70, of 1953 NC Highway 30 died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Pitt Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East in Washington by James "Spanky" Sanderson. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Mr. Pilgreen was a retired farmer and veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia P. Wayne and Marie P. Ballinger; one half-sister, Ruth Sumrell; and one brother Joseph Thomas Pilgreen. Survivors include four daughter Shirley P. Estupinan of Greenville, Fay Pilgreen and Brenda Pilgreen, both of Washington, and Sandra P. Bowen of Winterville; three sons, Clifton R. Pilgreen Jr. of Greenville, Joseph "Joe" Pilgreen of Bath and Timmy Pilgreen of Washington; four half-brothers, James Pilgreen and Bruce Pilgreen, both of Greenville, Robert Pilgreen of Winterville and Basnight Pilgreen of Grimesland; 20 grandchildren, two of whom he raised, Mary P. Bass and Michael Pilgreen; and five great-grandchildren. The family will join friend tonight from 7:30 to 9 at Hillside Funeral Service. .2 |
